“We entrusted the development of an internal collaboration tool for our company to Hitek Software. Due to a lack of expertise in this field, we searched for an application developer and worked with an internal developer (specialized in server development) to complete the project. Initially, the project was expected to be completed in 2 months, but as usual, the workload was more incredible than anticipated, resulting in an extended development period of 4 months.
Although the development company did not fully understand the work content initially, we were responsible for not defining the initial requirements. Both sides agreed to extend the development timeline. (From this experience, we realized how crucial it is to clearly define work requirements when requesting development services).
During the project, my main concerns were:
1. Do they have the necessary development expertise?
2. Will there be language communication issues, since the developers are foreigners?
3. Will they be dedicated throughout the development process, or will they do things half-heartedly, resulting in a subpar final product?
Based on my experience, I can share the following:
1. They indeed have expertise in application development. We received a lot of support regarding the app development process, including limitations we were unaware of before.
2. Although it would be better if the partner’s developer could communicate well in English, there was a Korean intermediary to facilitate content coordination, so communication was not a big issue.
3. The working attitude was very positive. They were proactive in solving our requests and clearly explained when certain requests were not feasible during development.
